As Christians, we must remain grounded in the Word of God and not be deceived by the many voices claiming to speak in His name. Today, we see Church leaders who have strayed from Christ’s teachings, telling people to leave their church if they don’t support a specific political party. But isn’t the church supposed to belong to God?
There are also individuals who claim to be God-fearing, yet they are praying for others to wither away, using God’s name to place a curse on someone. This is not right and goes against the heart of God’s teachings.
Guard Your Salvation
Once we are saved through the grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we must be vigilant in guarding our salvation. There is a real enemy who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). Knowing the Word of God is essential, so we can recognize when it is being twisted by the traditions and philosophies of man.
Colossians 2:8 warns us, “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.”
Do Not Pray Curses on Others
As followers of Christ, our behavior should reflect His love and grace. It is contradictory to pray for one person’s harm while blessing another. Instead, we should pray for spiritual healing and for God’s truth to open the eyes of those in darkness. Here are two powerful teachings from the Word of God on this matter:
James 3:9-10: “With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.” James emphasizes that it is wrong to use the same mouth to both praise God and curse people who are made in God’s image.
Acts 9:17-18 offers a powerful example when Ananias prayed for Saul: “And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, ‘Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.’ Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.”
Love One Another
Jesus gave us two great commandments: “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself‘” (Matthew 22:37-39).
We are called to love others as Christ loved us. If we find ourselves struggling to love others, we need to examine our hearts and ask God to restore our love through His Spirit. If your heart is being corrupted by bitterness or anger, the Holy Spirit will convict you. But if you are already blinded by sin, you may not even recognize it.
Test yourself by referring to the Word of God. John 15:12 says, “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” If following this commandment is difficult, it may be time to seek deliverance and a deeper communion with God, for your salvation could be at risk.
Since the dawn of time, everything has centered around the Word of God. To truly understand His Word and draw closer to Him, we must read the Bible and ask Him for discernment because our lives are built upon His teachings.
Christian Values: Built on the Word of God, Not Politics
Christian values are supposed to be rooted in the Word of God, not political ideologies. Here are a few key values from Scripture:
- Live a Life of Love: John 13:34-35 – “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- Forgive Others: Matthew 6:14-15 – “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
- Be Humble and Serve Others: Mark 10:43-45 – “Whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. … For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
- Obey God’s Commands: John 14:15 – “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
- Seek First the Kingdom of God: Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
- Live by Faith, Not by Worry: Matthew 6:25 – “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”
- Be the Light of the World: Matthew 5:14-16 – “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. … Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
- Practice Self-Denial: Luke 9:23 – “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
Remember: God Has Not Given Us a Spirit of Fear
In times of uncertainty and fear, we must remember God’s promise in 2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” God provides His children with power, love, and self-control, so fear should not dominate our lives.
Words have the ability to evoke strong emotions, so it’s important to be mindful of who we listen to and what we allow to influence us. Always focus on the Word of God and seek to draw others to Christ, never push them away.
As the Great Commission reminds us, we are called to lead others to Christ and not lead them away from Him: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).
Conclusion
The Word of God calls us to respond to wrongdoing with goodness: “Not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing” (1 Peter 3:9, NKJV). Praying for harm to come upon someone is a form of repaying evil with evil, which goes against this command.
This article focuses on living according to the Word of God. In Matthew 7:12, Jesus said, “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” If you truly believe in God, you should never support the idea of cursing anyone, as doing so may bring a curse upon yourself.
Now, more than ever, we need to pray for God’s will to be done on earth and place our faith in His plan. As we walk according to the Word of God, we must be willing to accept the results, trusting that His ways are higher than ours. Our salvation, and that of others, is too important to allow anyone or anything to cause us to lose focus.
Stay anchored in the Word of God, as Philippians 2:12 reminds us to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” By staying rooted in His Word, we can remain steadfast in our faith and His purpose for our lives.
Thank you for taking the time to read our article! As you go deeper into the Word of God, may He guide your every step. Remember, Christ gave His life to set us free from sin, so walk boldly and stay true to the path He has laid out for you.
